There is a great sense of sadness today in Rotorua for our city has lost a very revered and respected historian.

Dr Don Stafford was 82 and was Rotorua born and bred. Don was an avid protector of the stories and history of our local Maori tribe, The Te Arawa.

It's thanks to Don that local history has been preserved and will propser.
Don wote 32 books and was the first curator of Rotorua Museum. He will be sorely missed.
