Brrrrr... Plus new carpet.

Oh how quickly the seasons come and go.

After the long hot Summer and long sweet Autumn, Winter is here with a vengeance. The frosty mornings are a shock to the system. but sure to get the blood pumping!

The excitement mounts as we look forward to the new carpet being laid on Tuesday. I guess this weekend we will be packing small treasures and delicate items just in case the furniture movers are not quite as careful as we would wish!

We have weekend guests so once we bid them farewell it will be all hands to the pump.

Today we got a Friend Request on The Springs Facebook page and it was so lovely to catch up with French honeymooners who had stayed with us in 2008...I just love social networking.

UPDATE: Here is a shot of the new carpet....

Another Gorgeous Day In Paradise...

We have just been down to the Lakefront for a stroll and it is looking divine. I love our city. There was lots of activity with a helicopter whizzing off for a spin around the geothermal areas which look so amazing from the air.

For 7 of the last 10 years Rotorua has won the title "The Most Beautiful City" in New Zealand.

Is this not a stunning shot of the lake?

The paddle steamer "Lakeland Queen" cruises out on the lake on a daily basis. There is sure plenty to do on the water for all ages.

Keeping Things Fresh....

To keep a property looking great it is essential that there is an on-going refurbishment programme.

It's great fun to see a guest room morph from one style to another so every 3 years each room changes. This year it is our Rachel room.

Each of our Guest Rooms are named after local freshwater springs, hence the names Fairy, Rainbow, Paradise and Rachel.

The first 3 are cold fresh water springs, but Rachel, in the Government Gardens, is the hot spring which feeds the Polynesian Spa. At 212 F she's one hot lady!

Nothing Quite Like Friends.....

As the season slows down it is an ideal opportunity for us to spend time with out of town friends.

Jan and David from Christchurch came for 3 nights and left today. The house is now deathly quiet and the "friends' noise" has ceased! It is amazing how much laughter and nonsense we can make...

Tomorrow it is back to business as usual with Americans arriving for a few nights and we look forward to their arrival.

The Crossed Keys....

The business of running a bed and breakfast is not just about the bed or the breakfast, but also having an abundance of knowledge about everything in the region.

It is vital to guest satisfaction that we help them do and see things that are relevant to their interests and not just the run of the mill activities.

The symbol of a Concierge is the crossed gold keys. Anyone who has attained those has a store of vast knowledge and a "can and want to do" attitude.

In the Middle Ages the concierge was the keeper of the candles..... I guess keeping a light in the window relates to the modern "Vacancy Sign"!

So, if you are coming to stay at The Springs we will be here to offer advice and assistance to make your holiday the best it can be. We may not have "The Keys", but we have everything else!
